Write

Welcome to your poetry tool kit! We’ll show you how to write poetry – but first you need to collect your tools: words, form, technique, intention, and meaning.

Words

If you don’t know lots of words, it’s very hard to write poetry. Poetry is all about knowing exactly the term to communicate the thought, feeling, emotion, or idea you are trying to explain. The words in a poem are like the bricks of a house, if the house was a Tetris house. Dictionaries are the best place to find words and learn their meaning.

The difficult thing about words is that their meaning changes depending on the situation. Over time words take on new meaning, new words are created, and some words are forgotten or become old-fashioned.
